At EMIT, trilingualism is neither an option nor simply language learning. French, English, and French Sign Language (LSF) are an integral part of school life, in the classroom and in everyday routines.
Children grow in a lively, structured, immersive environment where languages are present in conversations, rituals, activities, and every situation throughout the day.
Each language is carried by a clearly identified adult, who communicates in their reference language. This consistency helps the child build clear points of reference, make connections naturally, and develop a more fluent relationship with languages.
Each language is carried by a clearly identified adult, which helps the child build clear points of reference and a natural relationship with languages.
The school’s trilingualism is based on a clear, consistent educational organisation. In every classroom, children are supported by three complementary adults, each carrying one language in daily life.
This organisation allows children to grow in a stable, clear, natural environment, where French, English, and LSF are associated with specific people, situations, and concrete moments of classroom life.
They support children in French during conversations, learning activities, presentations, and everyday moments.
They bring English to life every day through routines, activities, interactions, and classroom life.
They integrate French Sign Language into communication, attention, and everyday learning.
All of the school’s teaching materials are designed in French and English.
The teaching team has also been researching and creating materials for learning L.S.F. since 2010. This approach reflects a long-term commitment and a genuine desire to make L.S.F. a fully fledged component of the educational project.
L.S.F. is therefore not a minor detail in the EMIT environment. It is part of the very core of the school’s value proposition.
The team researches, adapts, and creates materials to bring LSF into everyday learning.
The child develops a finer awareness of words, gestures, expressions, and intentions.
They learn to express themselves and understand others in several ways, depending on the situation.
Languages fuel their desire to discover, question, and understand what surrounds them.
They grow up with a richer view of languages, cultures, and diversity.
Growing in a daily trilingual environment allows the child to develop a more flexible, lively, and natural relationship with languages.
This framework nurtures their listening skills, curiosity, openness, and ability to communicate with others in different ways. EMIT’s trilingualism is not only linguistic: it fully shapes how the child grows, understands, and connects with others.
EMIT’s project is not based solely on the coexistence of three languages. It is part of a multicultural, international, and profoundly human environment, where diversity is experienced as a strength.
This openness is reflected in the make-up of the team, in school life, in relationships with families, and in the way children learn to live with others.
Trilingualism then becomes more than a pedagogical feature: it becomes a way of growing up in a culture of openness.
