Our teaching team is faithful to the teachings of Maria Montessori while seeking to expand and develop what has been learnt:
- respecting the child as an individual
- respecting sensitive periods of development
- encouraging the child’s natural rhythm of development
considering that the child’s education and all-round development are as important as the development of his or her intellectual faculties - by nurturing their interest in the world around them rather than simply teaching them facts
- by using a scientific method of observation to determine the educational environment best suited to each child’s needs and nature
- by allowing children to develop in an environment where they are surrounded by three languages every day
French, English and FSL (French sign language) are used in classrooms and throughout the school on a daily basis. All teaching materials are designed in French and English. Our teaching team (A.M.I. trained) has been researching and creating materials for learning FSL since 2010.
In each class, there is a French-speaking Montessori teacher, an English-speaking Montessori teacher and a Montessori assistant who communicates in L.S.F. Each teacher communicates only in their mother tongue. The children grow up in a school environment similar to what we would find in a multilingual and multicultural family, one parent/one language.
